Playoff contest update

As I see it, that last kick from Phil Dawson just changed the entire contest. Mark has selected SF to beat Carolina (which he could only do by also picking the Saints to win last night.) Since all other games have been decided or have all five of us picking one team, if the 49ers win next Sunday afternoon, Mark has won this contest. If Carolina wins, then four out of five will finish with the same score. Your choices if Carolina wins: we each get $2.50 from Burt; we develop a tiebreaker for Todd, Mark, Allison and King. To be determined next week before the CAR-SF game. (You can check my math here but under the 1-2-4-8 scoring system Todd and King winning CAR covers the two points by which they currently trail Allison and Mark. Burt has been eliminated.)

The Dave Barry Holiday Gift Guide. I think Mark gets the Flair Hair Visor. But best of all, a blanket that captures farts. I do NOT know how I survived life without this.

WIG-DP rules

OK, dead pool rules:
  1. Pool period runs from July 1, 2009 at 12:01AM to June 30, 2010 at 11:59PM, Central Time.
  2. We Is Genius (WIG) members may choose up to five (5) people.  These people must be famous in entertainment, sports, politics, literature or in some other way.  If two WIG members find your pick too obscure, they may call for a vote of the group.  It will take 2/3 majority to remove your pick.
  3. For each pick, contribute one dollar to WIG.  Banker will be chosen among bankers.
  4. You will receive a score for each person you correctly predict to die between the dates of the pool.  Your score will equal 100 minus the age of the person who dies.
  5. All entries will be public on this blog.
  6. All entries must be received by June 30, 2009 at 11:59pm CT by email to King.

A very funny man

Bob Newhart biography, from Esquire.

I think of those great songs written during the Depression -- they helped cheer people up. "Pennies from Heaven," "I've Got a Pocketful of Dreams." I suppose we need a few of them now. Maybe they could be in hip-hop, but I don't know if anyone would understand the lyrics.

What do you want in a car?

As some of you know I belong to a group called the Customer Advisory Board sponsored by Chrysler's new owners. They are attempting to improve vehicles by actually listenting to what customers want. Our genius group has a very diverse sense of what is important in a vehicle so I thought I would take a poll of my friends. What do you want in a car? Safety? Economy? Lots of chrome and big tail fins? What one thing about a car makes you go drive around just for the enjoyment of doing so, even if there is no place you really need to go?

An Example

This is what I am talking about. Here is the proof.

So where is the "Lust" now!

So most of the summer it was "Lust" with a mosaic of employee head shots clade to a large pice of tag board set out next to the coffee station. Now the board is down and a new one has replaced it with cheesy head shots of most of the "We is Genius" clan as well as other regulars of the coffee house. Ok, that is fine, but the "Lust" is gone. Are we to old to be lusted over, just a bunch of worn out old men? No we are not! We is Genius and we want cheap coffee choices, good breads and a little wink from the front counter staff just to give our ego the little jump start it needs in the morning.

Are you with be boys?

God knows what they'd do with the quiche

In November the Food and Drug Administration told Smiling Hill Farm of Westbrook, Maine, that it would have to recall all of its egg nog because it did not list "egg" as an ingredient on the label. Federal law requires the listing to protect people with egg allergies from inadvertently consuming foods that they might not have realized contain egg (even products called "egg nog").
